Winter Chutney

Winter Chutney

Makes 8 x 300 g jars

1 hrs

This chutney works well with just about anything but pairs especially well with cheese and crackers, or alongside sausages.

What do I need?

  • 1.8 kg tart apples
  • 450 g red onion
  • 220 g sultanas
  • 340 g dark brown sugar
  • 700 mL cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

How do I make it?

  1. Put all ingredients in a large pan and cook down slowly till thick enough to draw the spoon through.
  2. Pot up into sterilised jars when still hot and seal.
  3. Leave to cool, then label and store or give as gifts.

The recipe can be easily halved or doubled with no change to the flavour, it will just take a bit longer or shorter time to make.
