There’s nothing more Australian than an ANZAC biscuit.

What do I need?

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 tbsp boiling water
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (add a little more water if mixture is too dry)

How do I make it?

  1. Preheat oven to 160°C.
  2. Combine oats, sugar, and flour in a bowl and mix.
  3. In a saucepan, mix golden syrup, boiling water, and bicarbonate of soda until they froth. Add melted butter.
  4. Combine the butter mixture with the dry ingredients.
  5. Drop teaspoons of the mixture onto a floured tray, allowing room for spreading.
  6. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until deep golden. Allow to cool on baking trays for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
