Handmade Sausage Rolls

Perfect for parties, snacks, or any occasion, these delectable treats are quick to assemble and even quicker to disappear!

What do I need?

  • 6 sheets frozen puff pastry
  • 1 Slape & Sons BBQ Sausage Meat 1 kg
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 carrots, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¾ tsp black pepper
  • ¾ tsp curry powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp chilli flakes (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk

How do I make it?

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to package instructions.
  2. Prepare the filling by combining the sausage meat, diced potatoes, carrots, onions, salt, black pepper, curry powder (if using), and chilli flakes (if using) in a large mixing bowl. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Assemble the sausage rolls by cutting each puff pastry sheet in half and laying them flat on a clean surface. Spoon approximately 90 grams of the sausage mixture onto the centre of each pastry sheet.
  4. Seal the rolls by brushing the edges of the pastry with the egg wash (milk mixed with beaten egg). Fold the pastry over the filling to enclose it, then use a fork to press down along the edges to seal the rolls.
  5. Score and cut each roll by making approximately 6 score marks along the top of each pastry roll. Then, cut each roll into your preferred size.
  6. Transfer the assembled sausage rolls onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Brush the tops of the rolls with the remaining egg wash.
  7. Bake the sausage rolls in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is cooked through.
  8. Serve the sausage rolls warm as a delicious snack or party appetiser. Allow them to cool slightly before enjoying them!
