This creamy vanilla porridge is the perfect way to start the day.
What do I need?
- 200 g rolled oats
- 750 mL full cream milk
- 300 mL pure cream
- 1 vanilla bean, split, seeds scraped
- 2 red apples, cut into small pieces
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 100 g pitted dates
How do I make it?
- In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine oats, milk, cream, and vanilla pod and seeds. Stir frequently and cook for 10-15 minutes until oats are tender and the mixture is thick and creamy. Add a little more milk if it becomes too thick.
- For the caramelised apples, place the cut apples, brown sugar, honey, and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until the apples are tender, golden, and sticky. Then add whole dates and mix through.
- Divide the porridge among four bowls. Top with the caramelised apple and date mixture, drizzle with honey and serve.
