Creamy Vanilla Porridge with Apples and Dates

This creamy vanilla porridge is the perfect way to start the day.

What do I need?

  • 200 g rolled oats
  • 750 mL full cream milk
  • 300 mL pure cream
  • 1 vanilla bean, split, seeds scraped
  • 2 red apples, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 100 g pitted dates

How do I make it?

  1. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine oats, milk, cream, and vanilla pod and seeds. Stir frequently and cook for 10-15 minutes until oats are tender and the mixture is thick and creamy. Add a little more milk if it becomes too thick.
  2. For the caramelised apples, place the cut apples, brown sugar, honey, and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until the apples are tender, golden, and sticky. Then add whole dates and mix through.
  3. Divide the porridge among four bowls. Top with the caramelised apple and date mixture, drizzle with honey and serve.
