This makes a great centrepiece for any Christmas party.
What do I need?
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 2/3 cup Nutella spread
- 1/2 cup pecan nuts, finely chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tsp unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tbsp raw sugar
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
How do I make it?
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Place one sheet of puff pastry onto a piece of baking paper on top of a cutting board. Carefully cut out a Christmas tree outline, ensuring you don’t cut through the baking paper.
- Spread the Nutella over the entire pastry tree and sprinkle with the chopped pecans.
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry over the top of the first. Press down gently to follow the outline of the bottom sheet and cut out a matching tree shape.
- Lightly score a central “trunk” on your tree from the top to the bottom. Then, cut the branches of the Christmas tree horizontally at 2 cm intervals on each side.
- Once all the branches are cut, twist them away from you until they are all curled.
- Brush the surface of the tree with the beaten egg. Gently lift the baking paper with the tree onto a baking tray.
- Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes, until golden.
- While the tree is baking, mix the raw sugar and ground cinnamon together in a small bowl.
- Once the tree is baked, remove it from the oven. Brush with the melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar mixture.
