A huge hit at any gathering and incredibly simple to prepare.

What do I need?

  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2  tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½  tbsp garlic powder
  • ½  tbsp onion powder
  • 1 large loaf of sourdough bread
  • 450 g Monterey Jack cheese
  • (or Havarti cheese), thinly sliced
  • Parsley, to garnish

How do I make it?

  1. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Set aside.
  2. Cut the bread diagonally into 2.5 cm slices, leaving about 1 cm intact at the bottom of the loaf (do not cut all the way through). Repeat the cuts in the opposite direction.
  3. Arrange the cheese slices in the cuts of the bread, then drizzle the butter mixture over the top.
  4. Wrap the loaf in foil and place it on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 180°C for 15 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with parsley and serve while warm.
